Birdlife
The Erongo Mountains offer exceptional birding opportunities, with a rich diversity of species found across their granite slopes, valleys, and seasonal watercourses. Seven Namibian endemics occur here, including the distinctive Hartlaub’s Francolin, the striking White‑tailed Shrike, and the lively Damara Rock‑runner. Raptors, cliff‑dwellers, and colourful songbirds all thrive in this varied landscape, while migratory and water birds add seasonal interest throughout the year.
Most tourism establishments within the EMNS have created well‑marked hiking trails, making it easy for birders to explore the mountains safely and confidently. At Erongo Rocks, a dedicated bird hide offers a quiet, concealed vantage point where visitors can sit unnoticed and enjoy close‑up views of the region’s remarkable birdlife.
